The technique of simultaneous bilateral inferior petrosal sinus and peripheral vein sampling for ACTH with CRH stimulation.
The positions from which samples are obtained are shown. The diagnosis of Cushing s disease is established by an ACTH ratio of more than two between simultaneous peripheral vein and petrosal sinus samples. A ratio of over two between the right and left petrosal sinuses indicates that the tumour is left-sided.
